Legendary Jazz Musician
Jazz enthusiasts are in for a treat when Hong Kong’s most celebrated jazz musician, Eugene Pao performs with the Anthony Fernandes Jazz Trio on Tuesday evenings in the Lobby Lounge.
At the vanguard of promoting jazz in Hong Kong and the region for over three decades, Eugene Pao is synonymous with jazz in our city. He was the first Hong Kong jazz musician to sign a contract with an international record label and has released numerous albums under his own name and with other internationally renowned jazz musicians.
Jazz greats with whom he has recorded and performed on stage over the years include Jack DeJohnette, Michael Brecker, John Patitucci, Joey Calderazo, Marc Johnson, Eddie Gomez, Terumasa Hino, Bob Berg, Ulf Wakenius, Mads Vinding, Ernie Watts, Martin Taylor, James Moody, Bill Bruford, Jeff Berlin, Bobby McFerrin, Eric Marienthal, Richard Galiano, Toninho Horta, Georgie Fame, Laura Fygi, Kazumi Watanabe, James Morrison, Terumasa Hino and Jimmy Witherspoon.
As Hong Kong’s premier jazz guitarist, Eugene travels the world for performances at international jazz festivals, concert halls & jazz clubs. He has performed at the Montreal, London, Java, Singapore, Mount Fuji and Live Under the Sky Jazz Festivals and at Royal Albert Hall and Ronnie Scotts in London, Blue Note jazz club in Japan & Beijing, JazzKeller in Frankfurt and many other international venues.
As a composer, he has contributed music to countless TV commercials; and his film soundtracks have been nominated for best original score at the HK Film Awards. Esquire Magazine featured him on the cover as one of the 20 most influential men in its 20th Anniversary Issue; and recently the PRS guitar company custom built a signature guitar especially for him.
